James Bernheimer , M.D., has joined the Neurology Center at Mercy Downtown and Mercy Personal Physicians at Glen Burnie and Ayesha F. Cheema , M.D., has joined Mercy Personal Physicians at Columbia. Bernheimer is an experienced neurologist and treats a variety of conditions including multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular disease, neuropathy, Parkinson disease and stroke. Board certified in neurology and clinical neurophysiology, Bernheimer is a graduate of Loyola University Maryland and earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Bernheimer completed his internship in internal medicine at Mercy Medical Center and his residency in neurology and fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Bernheimer is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the Virginia Neurological Society. Previously, Bernheimer served as stroke director at Mercy from 2003 to 2015. Cheema is an experienced primary care physician who provides medical care to patients 18 years and older. She earned her medical degree from the University of Health Sciences, Lahore Allama Iqbal Medical College and completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Cheema completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Montefiore Medical Center, North Division, in New York City. Prior to joining Mercy Medical Center, Cheema was a primary care physician in Florida. She also has participated in numerous presentations, abstracts and research publications.
